EMC's
Open Innovation Lab created the initial Hadoop Starter Kit (HSK) and released
it
on 8/25. I provided an overview and reasoning for creating the original Hadoop
Starter Kit in this post here.
The primary goal of the EMC HSK pilot project was to create an easy,
inexpensive, and scalable way to deploy a Hadoop service leveraging industry
standard IT infrastructure. The initial release was viewed more than 2000 times
and had over 500 downloads of the kit in six weeks.
Using the Open Innovation Lab rapid release cycle we released version 2.0 on 10/15 at VMworld Barcelona. The 2.0 version includes:
- Support for VMware Big Data Extention (BDE) 1.0 GA features
- Deployment guide for PivotalHD Hadoop compute cluster
- Deployment guide for Cloudera Hadoop compute cluster
- Deployment guide for Hortonworks Hadoop compute cluster
- Support for VMware vSphere 5.5
In the first three days the HSK site has been viewed 750 times with the following breakdown of HSK guide downloads:
- PivotalHD - 118
- Cloudera – 79
- Hortonworks – 72
- Apache - 90
I thought it was interesting that one of the common comments we have received is our solution has taken a unique approach to Hadoop. Instead of creating a siloed, single purpose IT infrastructure for Hadoop which requires large data sets to be copied to these environment we are enabling customers to rapidly deploy Hadoop analysis with immediate access to existing data repositories. EMC Isilon allows any of the major Hadoop distributions to easily access any data stored on your cluster regardless of the protocol (CiFS, NFS, HDFS) originally used to store it. This eliminates the challenges of the Data Gravity phenomenon proposed by Dave McCrory. Our solution also greatly reduces cost, and time to value.
The engineering team of Dan Baskette, and Ryan Peterson, led by James Ruddy has been outstanding. This project has shown the value of the close collaboration between EMC engineering, partners, and customers with the EMC Open Innovation Lab. The EMC Open Innovations Lab is ready to work with you on your big data analytics pilot. If you are interested in working with us on a Hadoop Starter Kit pilot, contact Ryan Peterson for additional information. We would love to hear your feedback on this latest EMC Hadoop solution.
Good to Know about the EMC Hadoop starter Kit version2, Really needful information thank you. Learn hadoop online,There is good offer going on Hadoop online Training
